The Irish Sports Council Classic dominated the main arena in the RDS at the Discover Ireland Dublin Horseshow this afternoon. There were fifty seven horse and rider combinations starting in this show jumping class which had a prize fund in excess of €20000.

Fastest against the clock was US rider Lauren Hough. Hough cleared the jump off phase in 40.29 seconds. This proved to be the time that just could not be beaten. Florida resident Hough competed with 9 year old Blue Angel. Lauren made her debut appearance on Blue Angel earlier this year in Chantilly, France during the Global Champions Tour where the pair placed sixth.  At the time Lauren described the mare as potentially ‘her next grand prix superstar’.

Second place in the Irish Sports Council Classic went to Michel Robert. Robert competed with Kellemoi De Pepita and cleared the course in 41.38 seconds. The Irish were represented in the line up by Nicola Fitzgibbon and  Puissance. Fitzgibbon  was clear in 44.91 seconds, a time that was good enough to secure her fifth place.
